Over the years, the sport has seen the growth in Outrigger Canoe Sailing, from men against the sea, humble, kapakahi beginnings to the current 30 plus canoes in the sailing fleet of the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association. The leaps in understanding, technology, and skill have been truly awesome. With races that are sometimes as long as 100 miles and that can last up to 14 hours, the demand for endurance for both crew and canoe is tremendous. Please, keep in mind that there are no crew changes during a race. The same crew that starts a race has to finish the race.
